“I’m a keen village entrepreneur and I work hard for a better life for my family”
The CUFA Village Entrepreneur program supports villagers in developing countries to change their life and step out of poverty. Over 2-3 years individual Village entrepreneurs are given training, start up materials and financial support to start a local micro-business that they are helped to plan, design and be sustainable over the long term.
A village entrepreneur wants to improve their income to support their family by starting a business – they can be a man or a woman, usually with a young family. The businesses are always very small and provide services to their village such as chicken raising to sell eggs, vegetable growing to sell at market, pig raising for meat, basket weaving, or a small kiosk selling rice, vegetables, and small foodstuffs.
Many people in developing countries, especially those living in rural and remote areas, do not have access to financial services – to learn how to save or to borrow at affordable interest rates without being exploited. So it’s difficult or impossible for many people to improve their income by creating or expanding small businesses, the backbone of strong and sustainable communities.
“I can spare the cost of half a cappuccino a day to invest in a community where opportunity is scarce and life is much harder”
CUFA links village entrepreneurs with community investors in Australia who want to provide around a dollar a day to support an individual to achieve financial independence, improve their lives and support their family.
Community Investors get regular reports on their village entrepreneur and gain great sense of achievement and pride as their business becomes sustainable and stabile.
