Cambodian Leadership Challenge 2008

The CUFA Cambodia Leadership Challenge, 8 to 19 September 2008

Summary:

The CUFA Cambodia Leadership Challenge, 8 to 19 September 2008, was the first CUFA Challenge - a fund raising and education program that delivered a unique insight into Cambodian culture allowing for an intimate connection with Cambodian communities and their credit union movement - and delivered funding for the CUFA Cambodia Children's Financial Literacy Program.

The group of 10 Cambodia Challengers raised in excess of $45,000.00 for this development work.

As a leadership development and team building program, the CUFA Cambodia Leadership Challenge engaged participants in an inter-dependent, testing and rewarding experience, whilst providing them with an enjoyable, inspirational and unforgettable life experience.

As a life-changing journey…

Comprising of a fundraising challenge before participants went to Cambodia, then a 5-day physical challenge cycling from Siem Reap in the north west of Cambodia, to Battambang, participants then experienced in-country project work assisting with the delivery of CUFA Children's Financial Literacy in the provinces of Battambang and in the CUFA Training Centre in the capital Phnom Penh.

The future

CUFA Leadership Challenge programs offer the ultimate opportunity for personal growth through the challenge of fundraising, demanding travel and delivering project work, and supports the worthwhile cause of providing financial literacy, community building and alleviating poverty.

The fundraising element empowers people to get involved and become effective ambassadors for credit unions. The in-country challenge component included physical trips to test people’s resources and was a superb opportunity for developing inner strength and teamwork. The CUFA Leadership Challenge also offers exposure to different cultures, beliefs, traditions and ideas.
