Margot Sweeny B Bus, MEc, CPA, ACS, SA Fin, FAMI, JP CEO Summerland Credit Union
Margot has worked extensively in both the commercial and public sectors, in a variety of fields including construction, computing, accounting financial management and taxation. She has been CEO of Summerland for 11 years.
Margot is an active corporate citizen in the Northern Rivers of NSW and has been an active participant in various regional development organisations and advisory groups in the past decade. She has strong connections with Southern Cross University and currently sits on the University Council, the Audit Committee, the Finance Committee and the University Foundation. She is also a director of Abacus.
Margot has actively participated in a range of CUFA programs and in 2008 attended the CUFA Cambodian Study Tour for CEOs and Chairs; she also alerted Ethical Investor to CUFA’s contribution in Cambodia resulting in two articles being published and was part of the hosting party for the visiting Sri Lankan credit union women’s group in 2009.
Brian Bennett Dip Comm, CPA, FAMI, AIMM CEO Encompass Credit Union
Brian Bennett the CEO of Encompass Credit Union is a long standing CUFA supporter. Brian’s engagement with CUFA over the years has included participating in the CUFA Kokoda Trail Leadership Challenge in 2009, raising huge amounts of money for the Oceanic Confederation of Credit Unions based in Fiji (a CUFA Pacific project). He has also supported the Leadership Challenge in Cambodia sending a number of his staff on this program over the last few years. Brian has also been instrumental in encouraging and supporting his staff participation in fundraising activities for CUFA through trivia nights and other staff activities.
Louise Petschler BA (Hons) MAICUD CEO Abacus - Australian Mutuals
Louise Petschler is a strong supporter of community development and the contribution the mutual banking sector can make in helping to empower people.
She has over 15 years experience in government and public relations and 7 years experience in the finance industry and before her current appointment Louise led the Public Affairs team at Abacus and its predecessor organisations, overseeing representation, advocacy and media. Louise’s past experience also includes roles working for the NSW Cabinet Office, the former Chemical Bank (in Australia and the US) and as a Senior Policy Officer with the Australian Consumers’ Association. Louise is the Chair of the NSW Consumer Credit Legal Centre and has memberships with the Australasian Mutuals Institute and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Peter Dowling AM BA (Accounting), FAICD, FICAA
Peter was appointed a Director of CUFA on 1 November 2008. Peter is a former Ernst & Young Tax and Business Advisory Partner. He is currently also a Director of Credit Union Australia Ltd, CPA Australia Ltd, Superior Coal Ltd, Lexon Insurance Pte Ltd, SPYRUS Pty Ltd, Virgin Blue Aircraft Leasing Subsidiaries and the Co-op Research Centre for Infrastructure Engineering Asset Management. Peter is also Chair of Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s Audit and Risk Committee, Chair of Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Audit and Risk Committee and Chair of the Queensland Water Commission Audit and Risk Management Committee and is the Queensland Honorary Consul for Botswana.
Rowan Dowland GAICD, ADAIM General Manager Development bankmecu GAICD, AFAIM
Rowan and mecu have been long standing supporters of CUFA and its programs. Rowan is a CUFA Development Educator and has been a popular speaker at the Development Education and Insight programs on sustainability and responsible banking issues. mecu staff and Directors have participated in CUFA’s Leadership Challenge. mecu recently won the Sustainable Small Company of the Year Award, presented by Ethical Investor at the 2010, 10th Australian Sustainability Award ceremony. Rowan is a member of the Australian Climate Change Program and has presented at a number of conferences on the topic of climate change and its impact on developing countries.
Therese Turner MBA, Adv Diploma Accounting, MAMI CEO Quay Credit Union
Therese Turner the CEO of Quay Credit Union (formerly AMP Credit Union) will be very familiar to many credit union people with her participation and support of a number of key industry events and initiatives. Quay Credit Union is a Platinum supporter of CUFA, and Therese has always assisted CUFA in hosting international credit union delegations to Sydney with the most recent being groups of Korean, Myanmar and Indian credit union people.
