174/2007 Credit Unions making a difference

CUFA would like to take this opportunity to thank its many supporters for their demonstrated commitment to the community development focus of CUFA and the principles of the Australian credit union movement during 2006/2007.

Contributions to CUFA have been strong throughout the current financial year, with additional funding streams being realised. It has been particularly heartening to again see the scope of credit unions commitment to the work of CUFA.

To date, of the 20 contributors with $50 million in assets or less - 15 are in Silver class or higher - with the most outstanding effort of La Trobe University Credit Union Co-Operative being the sole Platinum contributor within the '$40 per million assets and above ' section of the provisional 2006/2007 Contribution Progress Report.

However there is capacity within the Australian credit union movement for increased participation: of 144 Australian credit unions - 51% are active contributors to CUFA. Increasingly CUFA is developing its domestic focus with opportunities for credit unions to now participate in programs to benefit their members and community.

CUFA is also increasing its efforts to support credit unions to demonstrate the credit union difference to their members through their contributions with the Supporters Marketing Kit. This is an example of the new value-adding that CUFA provides to credit unions.

As the financial year draws to a close we ask that credit unions that have not contributed to CUFA during this financial year - to continue their support from previous years or to consider that as little as $100 - will make a difference.

The combined effort of the Australian credit movement will enable CUFA to make further progress with its existing programs in Cambodia, Sri Lanka and The Solomon Islands.

The final 2006/2007 Contribution Progress Report will be published to the CUFA web site and various other mediums mid way through July 2007, so if you would like your credit union to be acknowledged in this report, please give serious consideration to your support of CUFA before the end of June 2007.

If you would like further information or to make donation arrangements, please contact CUFA.
